Minutes of meeting held January 14, 2008

CANAAN TOWN BOARD MEETING – JANUARY 14TH, 2008

Supervisor Richard Keaveney opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, followed by a moment of silence.

There were five board members present:
Supervisor Richard Keaveney
Councilperson Peter Stelling
Councilperson Brenda Adams
Councilperson David Patzwahl
Councilperson Carrie Bither
There were thirty (30) people in the audience.

Supervisor Richard Keaveney introduced himself and each board member. Supervisor Keaveney said his office hours would be: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and every other Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or by appointment.

MINUTES: Councilperson David Patzwahl made a motion, seconded by Councilperson Carrie Bither, to approve the December 2007 minutes. 5-ayes, Motion Carried. Roll-call showed: Supervisor Richard Keaveney-yes; Councilperson Peter Stelling-yes; Councilperson Brenda Adams-abstained; Councilperson David Patzwahl-yes; and Councilperson Carrie Bither-yes. Minutes approved.
Councilperson Brenda Adams made a motion seconded by Councilperson Peter Stelling, to approve the January 4th, 2008, minutes. 4-ayes, Motion Carried. Roll-call showed: Supervisor Richard Keaveney-yes; Councilperson Peter Stelling-yes; Councilperson Brenda Adams-yes; Councilperson David Patzwahl-yes; and Councilperson Carrie Bither-abstained. Minutes approved.

BILLS: Councilperson David Patzwahl made a motion, seconded by Councilperson Carrie Bither, to pay all the encumbered bills: General Fund - #345-#380 in the amount of $27,419.05; Highway Fund - #161 - # 175 in the amount of $8,595.51 and the General Fund 2008 bills, #1-#13 in the amount of $3,166.11; Highway Fund 2008, #1 in the amount of $370.37. 5-ayes, Motion Carried. Roll-call showed: Supervisor Richard Keaveney-yes; Councilperson Peter Stelling-yes; Councilperson Brenda Adams-abstained; Councilperson David Patzwahl-yes; and Councilperson Carrie Bither-yes.

Supervisor Keaveney introduced the Town Assessor, Jean Rohde. Ms. Rohde “Thanked” all for coming in and introducing themselves. Ms. Rohde said that she found the three hundred data cards and that some changes have been made. The Town has approximately 1500 parcels.

HIGHWAY: Highway Superintendent, Bernhard Meyer, read his monthly report. The monthly report is on file at the Town Clerk office and may be seen during normal office hours.


RESOLUTIONS: Organizational Resolutions, No. 7 thru No. 29.
Councilperson Brenda Adams made a motion, seconded by Councilperson Carrie Bither, to adopt resolutions No. 7 thru No. 29. 5-ayes, Motion Carried. Roll-call showed: Supervisor Richard Keaveney-yes; Councilperson Peter Stelling-yes; Councilperson Brenda Adams-yes; Councilperson David Patzwahl-yes; and Councilperson Carrie Bither-abstained. Resolutions No. 7 thru No. 29 adopted.

RESOLUTION #30: HIGHWAY 284-STATE AID FOR REPAIR AND IMPROVEMENTS OF SPECIFIED TOWN ROAD, FRISBEE STREET
Councilperson David Patzwahl made a motion, seconded by Councilperson Carrie Bither, to adopt said resolution. 5-ayes, Motion Carried. Roll-call showed: Supervisor Richard Keaveney-yes; Councilperson Peter Stelling-yes; Councilperson Brenda Adams-yes; Councilperson David Patzwahl-yes; and Councilperson Carrie Bither-yes. Resolution No. 30 adopted.

BOARD: Councilperson David Patzwahl said that he would continue to create a monthly chart, from the Accountants report, of the Town finances.

AUDIENCE: Mr. Gary Flaherty asked about the procedures of the January 4th, 2008, board meeting. He also wanted to know why he does not have a key to the building because of the VFW agreement with the Town. The board said that these issues would be researched and addressed at the February meeting.

ADJOURNMENT: Councilperson Peter Stelling made a motion, seconded by Councilperson Carrie Bither, to adjourn the meeting at 7:39 p.m. 5-ayes, Motion Carried.
