All NEW STAR applicants– you will no longer be able to receive STAR directly on the school tax bill. Instead it will come as a REBATE check. You will need to register with the Department of Taxation and Finance to receive the rebate. Please follow this LINK for more information and to register.

Enhanced STAR Renewal
– If you have received STAR on your property in the past year you will continue to RENEW with the Assessor for a credit on your School Tax Bill.

AGED (lower income seniors)- sliding scale 5% to 50%

  • Must be primary residence -based on income of all owners and spouses –
  • Town, County and School income limit – $37,400
  • The Town also allows for unreimbursed medical expenses deduction

Veterans

  • Combat Vet – primary residence
    • County and Town Taxes – additional 10% of assessed values up to $24,000 for Town, $16,000 for County and $20,000 for Chatham School District
  • War vet – primary residence
    • County and Town taxes -15% of assessed value up to $36,000 for Town, $24,000 for County and $12,000 for Chatham School district
  • Disabled Vet
    • County and Town Taxes- ½ of the disability rating up to $120,000 for Town, $80,000 for County and $40,000 for Chatham School district
  • Cold War– primary residence – 10 year Exemption
    • Town and County Taxes – 15% of assessed value up to $12,000
  • Disabled Cold War
    • Town and County Taxes- ½ of the disability rating up to $40,000 *
