Information on Emergency Services covering the town of Canaan
- Canaan Library
- Canaan's small library is a member of the Mid Hudson Library System and can request books and other materials for you from other libraries via inter-library loan.
Location: County Route 5 South, immediately adjacent to the Town Hall
Hours/days: Hours: Wednesdays and Fridays 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Hours/days: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Wednesday: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday: 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM (temporary change for cataloging) Saturday: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Closed Sunday and legal holidays

- Transfer Station
- Canaan residents may dispose of household trash (MSW) at the Transfer Station owned by Covanta Energy Corporation.
Location: Off Route 22 near the B3 exit of the Thruway. From Route 22, turn between restaurant and truck stop, cross railroad tracks, go up ramp, circle around to dumpster located just before exit.
Hours/days: Wednesday 3:30 PM -6:30PM; Saturday 8:00 AM -12 noon

Requirements: You must be a town resident and have a sticker on your vehicle to use the transfer station. Stickers are issued annually and can be obtained at no charge from the Town Clerk.
Information regarding acceptable municipal solid waste (MSW) can be obtained from the Town Clerk.
Construction and demolition (C&D) disposal for residents is also available at no charge with a permit for that use from the Town Clerk.

- Recycling--Chatham Transfer Station
- Accepts type 1 and 2 plastic, paper, cardboard, bottles, and cans.
Location: 425 Route 295 between Chathan and East Chatham
Hours/days: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 7:30AM-4:00PM.

- Stoddard Field
- Canaan's town park, with tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and a pavillion. Can be used for private functions (apply via Town Clerk).
Location: On County Route 5 across from the Town Hall (just south of the blinking light).
Hours/days: Open sunrise to sunset every day. In the summer the Canaan Recreation program includes afternoon "camp" sessions at the park for Canaan children.

- DEC Boat Launch on Queechy Lake

Location: East end of Queechy Lake. Access road from County Route 30 (Queechy Lake Drive).
Hours/days: Sunrise to sunset
Requirements: For car-top boats only, swimming prohibited.
- Queechy Lake
- Public access to Queechy Lake is available through membership in the Adams Point Beach Association (see Local Organizations).
Location: Queechy Lake is located north of Route 295 and just west of Route 22.
Hours/days: Adams Point Beach is open June through Labor Day. In the summer the Canaan Recreation program includes free morning swimming lessons for Canaan children.

- Recycling--New Lebanon County Highway Station
- Accepts bottles, cans, plastic, and paper (no cardboard)
Location: Off Route 20 behind the OTB building (enter from West Street or behind the New Lebanon Supermarket)
Hours/days: Wednesday and Saturday 8:00 AM-12:00 PM

- A local hospital with an emergency room, cancer center, birth center, and community outreach programs.
